Getting Into the Word

Life Hacks Day 13

When I was a newly new mama, I remember being alone a lot.  Physically, my family was far away and my husband was working the 2010 census with long hours and strict deadlines.  Emotionally we were going through some crud as a married couple.  And then I had this tiny human that I was supposed to take care of.  One that cried.  A lot.  So I did, too.  There were many tears.

I remember carrying him in from the car – screaming – after a stressful time out somewhere… probably the grocery store.  And I heard God whisper to my heart.

“I’m mothering with you,” he said.  “I’m here.  I know what to do.  And I’ll show you.”

So I would remind Him of that promise every time the mothering gig seemed a little too ginormous for me to handle.

I am NOT a natural mama, but I don’t have a natural Father.  I have a heavenly Father who made me a mama and is walking alongside with me.

Life Hack #13: Spending time with Jesus.  I can’t do anything on my own strength.  It’s a necessary Life Hack for survival.

The other day I was reading Ephesian 2:8-9 again in my Bible.

“It is by grace you have been saved, not by works, so that no one can boast.”

You guys.  Motherhood is one area of life that I CAN NOT boast about.  My business is another.  Both of those areas of life are so new to me and such new territory.  I sometimes can’t believe that I’m walking either of their roads.  Who deemed me a fit mother?  I can barely take care of myself.  Who decided to put me in charge of a six-figure business with employees who rely on their paycheck?  That seems like a really bad idea.

My head knows all the answers to those questions.  God did.  He made me a mama.  And He gave me a business.  And somehow in his strange, but comforting wisdom, he picked me to do both.  And empowers me to do both WELL.

I may not feel like a great mom all the time.  And I surely feel that I don’t have a clue what I’m doing in business.  But that’s the point!

It’s by GRACE.  NOT by works.  So no one can brag!  God is insanely jealous of his glory.  Not in a selfish way, but in an honored and rightful way.  He doesn’t like sharing His works and His doings with me.  And I’m 100% happy hiding behind Him in a crowd as He gets all the applause and attention.  Sure, I’ll peek out and tell the story of what He did, but then slip right back behind his coat, outstretch my arm to the side, and point to Him.

He did it.

I’m so glad I had dug into the Word that day.  I needed those words.  I’m coming back tomorrow and the next with two life hacks to help us get into God’s Word and actually get something out of it.
